Well-known mining identity John Taylor will be the speaker at tomorrow night’s AusIMM Waihi Group meeting in Waihi.
Taylor is a Cornish-born mining engineer who graduated from the Royal School of Mines, London.
After nearly 30 years working in Cyprus, Iran, Spain and Australia, he came to New Zealand in 1993 to work as project engineer on the Globe-Progress mine for then operator Macraes Mining. In 2003, John joined Solid Energy.
In more recent years he has helped the AusIMM and Government departments in collecting NZ mining memorabilia.
Taylor’s subject matter will take in De Malcolm Maclaren whom he rated as New Zealand’s great economic geologist and also historic Cornish mining technology.
The venue for tomorrow evening’s meeting is the Kava Café on Seddon Street in Waihi.
